Terry Fox Ran With One Leg for Cancer Research, Canadians Continue His Legacy

In 1980, 21-year-old Canadian Terry Fox had already lost his right leg to cancer when he decided to begin his Marathon of Hope, a cross-Canada trek aimed at raising funds for cancer research. Fitted with a full prosthetic, Fox managed to cross over 3,000 miles in 143 days before his cancer spread. Fox died at the age of 22. Now in its 33rd year, the Terry Fox Run has drawn thousands of Canadians hoping to continue Fox's work. To date, over $600 million has been raised worldwide in Fox's name.
