The Boggs Schools New Place Based Education School in Detroit

The Boggs school is one of the three schools I am working in this school year, as a teaching artist in residence. It is a new school in Detroit that is focusing on place-based education practices and rooted in the revolutionary practices of James and Grace Lee Boggs. Zak Rosen from Michigan Radio did a great piece on all the work, the staff, students and community did up to their first week of school.

    I wish you the best of luck. Having a deepened sense of place and pride in your neighborhood is becoming harder to secure, but it's one of things that never shakes from your mind and pushes you to become a better citizen, a better neighbor--something I will always value after growing up in an older, smaller neighborhood. Good luck with the school year. Don't forget to let us know how it's going.
