The Bronx Is Spending

Apparently, the recession hasn't hit pro sports, or at least, not the upper echelon. Sources today claimed that the New York Yankees were set to sign free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira for $180 million dollars. For those keeping track, they also announced last week that they were signing pitchers C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Chien Mien Wang for a combined total of about $230 million. That's $410 million, plus a nice $23 million luxury tax bill they got slammed with for being over the salary cap last year. That's their own mini-stimulus bill right there, and it's going to 4 people, one of whom isn't even an American citizen. Eat your heart out, Dick Fuld. And when the bread riot starts, folks, please feel free to turn up in the Bronx with your pitchforks and torches.
