    I find this TED talk by Dan Pallotta extremely thought-provoking. He is essentially challenging us to examine how we think about changing the world. The non-profit sector needs a wake up call when it comes to questions of impact, spending, overheads and effectiveness. Is a program's fundraising effort more effective when its overheads are low or when it raises more capital for the program?

    Nonprofits face the challenge of spending dollars in operations or spending dollars in programs. Generally donors don't want their money to be spent on operations or salaries. They want their money to create impact on the ground. Pallotta gets us to challenge that kind of thinking, because sometimes incurring overheads and attracting a talented pool of people to the cause is in the best interest of the organization.

    By shifting our focus from the slice of the pie to the size of the pie, he forces us to re-negotiate our attitude towards working in and donating to the non-profit sector.

    Interesting that nonprofits are rewarded for spending less money. I really never thought of that. It makes me think they should take on the social enterprise model, which encourages consumers to spend more to make change. Totally different ideas. Just thinking outloud.
