This is so awesome. Ryan (founder) is an avid climber at Rockreation in LA. Our social media guy really wants a standing desk, and for us to do pushups every 50 min. "Exercise sparks innovation he always yells" Thanks for sharing, Jesse!

I love this facility! I have worked in the climbing community for 20 years, and have been working as a medical social worker and administrator, and now a personal and professional coach for the better part of this decade. When I heard about the BKB experience from an old friend and a prior colleague, who is also one of the BKB founders, I was floored: Everything we had ever imagined as our perfect dream facility was being actuated! Climbing and related activities have always been a strong life metaphor for me. I had to be a part of this amazing paradigm shift. You can typically find me in BKB Somerville just about anytime of the day: Working on my businesses outreach and/or coaching clients in the collaborative work space; training and playing for all my game (climbing, acrobatics, and yoga are my fav!); or working for BKB as a P3 climbing instructor.

The BKB experiment mirrors my worldview, the way I use my body has always informed my personal and professional life and vice versa. I am so happy to be part of this experiment both as part of the BKB team, but even more as a participant. We are all here to grow!

Absolutely crazy about BKB! Both locations are breathtaking from a number of different angles. Between the spontaneous challenges, the awesome events/concerts/performances, friendly and knowledgable staff, and the amazing routes, both facilities blow expectations out of the water.

BKB is one of my favorite places to be and I am so proud to hear that they are getting the props they deserve for their willingness to give back to the community and spur innovation with activity.

You don't often come across a place as special as BKB Somerville, and once you do, you don't ever want to let it go! One of my favorite things is the random/crazy/fun surprises that are always spontaneously happening, like staff members challenging customers to push-up and arm wrestling contests, walking around giving away treats for no reason, dancing behind the front desk... They just have a blast working, which makes me have a blast working out! Thank you BKB Somerville for being such an energizing, inspiring, and welcoming place to work out, hang out, and meet new friends.

This piece perfectly sums up what Brooklyn Boulders Somerville is all about. Being active is more than just being physical, it can be mentally stimulated, being creative, and of course, being innovative. Bringing climbing and community together under one roof? What could be better?

I love the cross between exercise, innovation, health, and design. Really cool that fitness can inspire creativity. I wish more offices had standup tables, breaks for exercise, etc. I wonder how workplace wellness can be more of an initiative? Right now, many corporations are just concerned about it for insurance reasons, versus health.

The pendulum has begun to swing. Many organizations have jumped on to the bandwagon to reap the superficial benefits of savings on healthcare when it comes to signing on to health related initiatives for their employees in the work place. However, health is increasingly becoming associated with increased productivity and happiness - so companies are now understanding that the ROI for pursuing the establishment of a fun, funky and active culture is far greater than savings on health care!

Having climbed, worked and collaborated at both Brooklyn and Somerville locations, I can certainly vouch for the BKB team and their mission to grow, influence and inspire the communities they serve. I am a member of the Somerville facility and I love spending time--working and playing--there. They are constantly evolving as a venue and community space, partnering with local businesses, putting on concerts and providing gallery space to local artists looking for exposure. Through one of their local business partnerships, I was able to register for a CSA and every Thursday, after I climb, I pick up my personalized bag of farm-fresh local, organic produce, meat and dairy at the BKB facility--all billed through my BKB membership account. My membership also gets me discounts at Zipcar, Ibex, Courageous Sailing, Goal Zero, Commonwealth Crossift...the list goes on and on. These guys really practice what they preach, and are building something really special in our community.
