This Silicon Valley Museum Gets Kids Tinkering With Wearable Tech

The Tech, a hands-on innovation and science museum in San Jose, California, is jumping on the wearable tech bandwagon.

The museum—located right in the middle of Silicon Valley—intends to encourage a culture of innovation, for all ages. It does this in part through a program called Open Make, a collaboration between the museum, MAKE Magazine, and Pixar, that features workshops with local makers.

This week, the workshop focuses on wearable technology, one of the hottest trends in the tech world these days, especially since the announcement of Google Glass last month and ongoing rumors that Apple will release its iWatch this year.

At The Tech, Open Make participants learn by doing. This week they'll be making their own light-up LED wristband or they can "code your kicks" by programming LED patterns with TinkerTags.

Check out this video from the Washington Post for more wearable tech buzz out of SXSW Interactive last month, including a look at Google Glass.
