Using Skateboarding as a Platform for Cultural Exploration

The lifestyle that comes with being part of any city's street culture is often misrepresented and misunderstood. Skateboarding, and the culture that comes with it, is no exception. Using film and photography, members of the skate community are able to articulate life as a skateboarder beyond the board. Skater's Atlas uses this technique and takes us on a tour of Stuttgart, Germany exposing its vibrant street culture through film and photography.

    This got me thinking about tags for some reason. Grafitti artists use tags to express themselves and mark their territory. And- now- we use tags online as a way to form communities and unify. Maybe I'm being too abstract here- but it's cool to see how Stuggart started his art by looking at the tags other artists were using and posting.
