Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change

ellebelle

"Vulnerability is not weakness. And that myth is profoundly dangerous." This talk, "Listening to Shame" is an empathic, inspiring 20 minute talk by social researcher Brene Brown. She assures us that every thinking, feeling human being deals with shame in their desire to be great, and that knowing shame and vulnerability helps us be more creative, innovative, and adaptable to change.

Funny, I have heard this statement very frequently recently. When broken down, this is all too true, albeit that it seems contradictory to say that "vulnerability is not weakness". But if you think about it, one of the times we are most vulnerable in our lives is when we are truly falling in love (not lust or infatuation, but true love). The only way TRUE love can be found is by letting your guard down and trusting that if it is meant to be, the universe will align and your feelings will be reciprocated. But if you never allow yourself to be vulnerable in this aspect (here, I think one can clearly see it means open, not weak), and you never put faith in trust, true love will not be able to mount the barricades you have placed around yourself in the name of protection. Might you get hurt? Sure! But what happens if you never try?!
