What can happen when you give a community of wildly creative people a free warehouse for an entire month?

[freespace] is a month-long community center in the heart of San Francisco where people have the opportunity to reimagine the urban experience. In a little over a week, the space has been filled with art, innovation, community, music, events, yoga, and more... all provided free of charge by volunteers and community members. Our month-long civic hack shows the power that community holds to transform a neighborhood by activating empty space.

    I have been so impressed with everything that has happened in such a short amount of time with [freespace]. Only 12 days in and they have engaged a huge cohort of community members in art, yoga, gardening, design, story telling and innovation. I can only imagine what will happen in the next 15 days!

    How might we make this type of opportunity replicable and sustainable in big cities?
