What's the Value of a Story?

As part of their project called Significant Objects, Rob Walker and Joshua Glenn bought ordinary objects for just a few dollars, then got world-class writers to write stories featuring these objects. The objects were then put up for sale on eBay, along with their stories. On average, they sold for 2,700% more than Walker and Glenn paid for them. Creating value (or in cruder terms, jacking up the price of something) involves not much more than imbuing it with significance.
