City Year offers something really incredible for students - a hybrid tutor-mentor program that gets to the heart of the education crisis by addressing both short-term and long-term causes of education inequity. I hope more nonprofits join them and do the same.
The only problem with City Year is the living stipend is almost unlivable. Corps members are paid a measly $275 a week (pre-tax). Unfortunately for most college graduates, making a little over $1000 a month just doesn't cut it.
Just another example of a great program in need of more funding.
