I've worked in this arena for 21 years through a science education grant from HHMI, which includes traveling labs for grades 7-12, and a focus on underrepresented minorities. In this program, females, regardless of ethnicity, are underrepresented minorities. That was an eye-opener for me when I began this journey as an undergrad researcher. What we discovered was that retaining females in STEM disciplines was what proved to be the most difficult, even when we achieve tenure track. One solution we found was mentoring of younger colleagues by experienced peers helps most to keep females in STEM jobs. I encourage you to continue your research and pioneering efforts! Excellent job!
