Firstly, I am absolutely fascinated and excited by this news and the potential for world change that it bears. So, thanks for reporting and engaging with this issue! Will spread the word.

I would like to add, however, an observation that people of color were the first to live and cultivate this land, and that they have lived on this land as long as white people (who, presumably, are the group not included in the term 'people of color' aka POC). For this reason, I think that there should not be intimation that radical change is coming to people's neighborhoods, as the statement that POC are the 'new majority' arguably suggests.

What IS certainly demographically shifting is the ability of POC to earn higher education degrees, and participate in upper level management, teaching, academic research, and professional work generally in the US. This is a shift that has happened primarily post Civil Rights era, aka in the last 30 years, or so. (Altho a tiny handful of POC have historically held such positions of power also, overcoming great obstacles in daily life). This demographic shift includes increasing POC in public office and financial institutions. This means that including POC in the dialogue of political and economic decision-making in this nation is changing/has already radically changed.

But this is a good thing. The opposite of that -- white people -- actually, white men -- primarily holding power and shaping major institutions, our laws, academic discourse, media, etc. was apartheid. Is apartheid. We are still living in a world feeling the tentacles of an era of racial segregation. Having a representation of as much of our nation/world's people in seats of power means greater diversity of ideas. And everyone knows that diversity of ideas is crucial for, well, everything.

For example, Monsanto makes a cloned monocrop -- the millions of acres of Monsanto fields are all clones of a seed. But the genetic modification process ironically requires genetic diversity. To produce the best seeds, you need as much choice of strong genes available as possible, which can only be ensured through great diversity.

Nature is diverse. The peoples of the Earth are diverse. The US is diverse.

If this proposed political opportunity has the potential to enhance equity and justice for POC, and all people, of America then thats potentially really awesome. :)

    Thanks for sharing the info!

This is REALLY great! Thanks for sharing! I just want to add that there is a lot being done in Los Angeles to spur good food, for example LAANE (Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy) is doing good work to bring grocery stores to food desert communities, there is a new law LA City is trying to push through allowing folks to grow food in sidewalk meridians, folks are growing food on rooftops in Skid Row (largest homeless community in US), and the LA County Master Gardener program is doing really amazing work to grow food for the people of LA. Sea change, here we come!!!
