I can't remember exactly, but my mom was either good at math in school and ended up with a bad teacher once, or says she wasn't good at math and credits a good teacher. It's hard to say, but my math grades varied from year to year and from teacher to teacher. I'm sure it applies to other subjects. Maybe if I'd had my amazing English teacher for Social Studies, I'd have enjoyed it and received better grades. I do think if there's a social acceptance of being poor at it or not a "math type" then we feel no responsibility to fix the situation, either personally or in educational institutions.
