People for Bikes

Biking. It's good for your health, it doesn't emit carbon, and it gets you outdoors. It just makes sense. But here in the States, we haven't always done a great job of making cycling easy. In many cities, a lack of bike lanes forces cyclists to fight cars for space, and in the suburbs, bad city planning means you have to be Lance Armstrong to actually get anywhere.

That's why a group called People for Bikes is trying to get 1,000,000 cyclists to sign their pledge to support biking. With an army of bike advocates, they figure they will have a "powerful, united voice to urge U.S Senators and Congressmen to make new, cost-effective investments in bicycling facilities and programs." People for Bikes launched in early March and they have more than 13,000 people on board right now. Getting to 1,000,000 shouldn't be too hard. Portland has half a million people itself.
