After previously denying the request TWICE, a court in Saudi Arabia has granted an 8-year-old girl a divorce
from her 47-year-old husband.

The father of
the girl had arranged the marriage between his daughter and a close
friend of his to settle his debts with the man.

However, the judge required the girl’s husband to sign a pledge that he
would not have sex with her until she reaches puberty.

In the original marriage agreement, the father of the
girl stipulated that the marriage would not be consummated until she
was 18.

The judge also ruled that the girl could file a petition for a divorce when she reached puberty.

The young girl lives with her mother and was never told that she was married.
