Two days ago, the FCC held its Digital Inclusion Summit. At the summit, one of the commissioners said the FCC was interested in "exploring using spectrum for a free or very low cost wireless service."
I lived in an area of Michigan that was promised low-cost, wireless broadband ($20 a month). Two years after the announcement, most people in the county still paid $50 or $60 a month for their broadband.
Expanding broadband access will expand access to information - an ever more valuable (and cheap) commodity. But delivering that access is something else entirely.
