A Proposal to Turn the Bay Bridge into Parks and Apartments

The Bay Bridge in San Francisco, which connects the city and Oakland, is scheduled for demolition as soon as its more earthquake-friendly replacement is completed. But rather than scrap the old one, two San Francisco architects have a proposal along the lines of the High Line in New York: turn it into an urban park and apartments. I appreciate the idea, but this seems like it would be a gnarly visual scar to the Bay Area. Talk about ugly. We need less steel hanging over the beautiful bay than there already is.
