Hip-Hop-Indie Synergy

Mash-ups can be forced. But in general, we’re happy with the synergistic confluence of hip-hop and “indie” music.
On a recent mixtape Kanye raps over a loop from Peter, Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks”.
And below, coming straight from the Choose GOOD San Francisco Block Party, is A-Trak mixing “Heartbeats” by The Knife, with “Get ‘Em Up” by Kanye.
There are definitely moments of blinding originality in the history of music, but it’s often through this kind of borrowing and mixing that the medium evolves.
