This is slightly old, but still ongoing, so we thought we'd throw our two cents in on the issue. First of all, banning abortion in your state wasn't the nicest thing to do, South Dakota Governor Rounds. It probably wasn't very easy to get to your one abortion clinic in the first place. And, look at that, your poll numbers just dropped from 72% to 58%. Ouch.
And now the Ogala Sioux are offering their sovereign (and not subject to South Dakota law) land for a new, un-banned abortion clinic. Planned Parenthood says they won't open a new clinic, probably because they want to fight the existing law and not admit defeat. But it's a nice option to have open.
Ancillary question: For people who believe that life begins at conception, why is it that they don't count people's birthdays from when they were conceived? Shouldn't everyone be nine months older than they say they are? This could, one would imagine, make a big difference in terms of driver's licensing, legal drinking, and military service.
