Moody's in Truckee and Baxter in NorthStar CA feature great jazz artists on a weekly venue. They have a free summer camp for selected high school students and bring the best teachers from all over the country. These teachers inspire the next generation of those that appreciate and play jazz. We need more of the people like Moody's owners at the grass roots level to keep the spirit of jazz alive and well.

You might get the sense from this article that The Bad Plus are some cutrate sellouts. Nothing could be further from the truth. These guys are sharp musicians who honor the soul of jazz while pushing it into the 21st century. They're my "band of choice" as far as jazz goes, although there are plenty of groups out there that go unmentioned in the article playing great, relevant jazz today.
