I was personally insulted by this stereotyping contained in the following passage in "Bad News" on how technologically clueless my generation is: "(if you’ve ever tried to teach someone over 50 to transfer digital picture files from a camera to a computer, you can probably attest to this). I am a news junkie, and agree that the article makes many good points. . But I'm writing this note on my laptop, which is accessing the web wirelessly from my office but could do as easily from home on the in-home wireless system I set up myself. I am equipped with a Blackberry, iPod and a digital camera, and I can and do import, export and edit digital images. So don't kiss off the boomer demographic and hopelessly out of touch with technolgoy. However, along with my technosavvy, I also am equipped with skepticism about the provenance of a lot of the stuff I see on the web. I'm trying to pass that skepticism along to college students, although I often despair. If this generation of college students remains as uninsterested and impervious to things like wars, epidemics, natural disasters, elections, terrorism and other "hard news" as they seem, then we should all be afraid --very afraid-- for the future of the country.

CBS News Sunday Morning is probably one of the only regular news programs I enjoy (if I'm up that early to watch it). I get most of my news online, blogs and from the "fake news" we all know and love.
The truth of all of this is, there is just too much to take in. I could be hot synced to RSS feeds 24 hours a day and still loose my focus on what I should really be paying attention to. I don't know what's going on in Iraq. I don't know really know what's going on in my neighborhood. Am I lost? Am I to self absorbed? Sure. Do I care? Yes. I just don't know what story to stick to.

I am a young person, very interested in what's going on the world. Though I agree with the article that a lot of my generation isn't. They are (generally) really focused on themselves and what directly affects them. Which happens to not include world-suffering, war, etc. That's why we are more and more being referred to as the "me generation". We are taught that we are special in preschool to build self-esteem, but there is never an end to that teaching.

Luckily, there is enough young people who care, who really care, and aren't afraid to make a difference, to make this country better. You need not worry too much about the future, but don't ruin what chances we have.

Just because you are technologically advanced doesn't mean that the rest of your generation is. There are exceptions to every generalization, stereotype, etc. You just happen to be an exception. You should proud of yourself, not insulted.
