Big Digs

  • Posted by: Andrew Price

The architects at Single Speed Design have made this gorgeous house from material salvaged from the Big Dig, Boston’s infamous, $22 billion freeway project.

Because the structural system for the house is made from discarded steel and concrete that was intended for freeways, it’s especially strong, and that allows for “the integration of large scale planted roof gardens.”

While I hope they’re going to do more with the landscaping, this is definitely the sort of thing we need to see more of. Astounding utilization of cast-off materials. Beautiful and brilliant.
