Can You Go a Month with No Palin?

A prominent Washington Post columnist is calling for a month with no Palin. Will you join the cause?

Think you can go a whole month without talking—in good or bad ways—about Sarah Palin? That's what Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank is proposing for the month of February. After discovering he'd written 42 columns about Palin since her vice-presidential nomination in 2008, Milbank has vowed to ignore the former governor of Alaska for a full 28 days.

I hereby pledge that, beginning on Feb 1, 2011, I will not mention Sarah Palin - in print, online or on television - for one month. Furthermore, I call on others in the news media to join me in this pledge of a Palin-free February. With enough support, I believe we may even be able to extend the moratorium beyond one month, but we are up against a powerful compulsion, and we must take this struggle day by day.

Milbank says the right- and left-wing media's obsession with Palin has gone too far, citing some huge numbers that certainly bolster his case: Keith Olbermann has mentioned Palin 345 times on his show, while Bill O'Reilly has featured her in 664 segments. We here at GOOD have mentioned her hundreds of times.

So perhaps enough is enough. No promises that we won't talk about Palin in February, but it's probably important to remember that other people doing great things are overlooked all the time in favor of a woman who is now technically just a reality TV star.
