Change + Agents = Changents

  • Posted by: Patrick James

In keeping with the progressive portmanteau glory of Juneteenth, let’s turn our attention to an amazing company called Changents. Simply put, it connects people who are trying to change the world with people who want to support them. But, in this case, support means more than just forking over cash. By using a what-Myspace-did-for-musicians model, founders Deron Triff and Alex Hofmann have created a space where online story-telling meets real-world action.

The site is comprised of “Agents of Change” and the “Backers” who support them. Take the Canary Project, the husband-and-wife duo that calls attention to global climate change through documentary video—you might remember them from GOOD 010. Here’s a look at what they’re doing.

If the Canary Project’s work interests you, you can choose to back them. That could mean anything from giving them a simple shout out of support to lobbying elected officials on their behalf. While they keep you updated on their ongoing efforts, you can make connections with the other people backing them and learn about ways to directly help the cause. If enough people get involved, Changents could be equipping the inspired among us for years to come.
