Day 24: Spend 20 Minutes Outside #30DaysofGOOD

For our latest monthly challenge, we're asking you to get healthy, from your feet to your teeth to your brain.

Welcome to The GOOD 30-Day Challenge (#30DaysofGOOD). Each month, we challenge our community members to do something that will improve the world around us—and our own lives. The challenge for October? To get healthy. In an effort to help us all rise to the occasion, we're going to assign one small task every day. Each morning, we will post the challenge on GOOD.is and Twitter, along with a testimonial from someone on the GOOD team who's already completed it. We invite you to complete all 30 mini-challenges with us! Today, we challenge you to:

Spend 20 minutes outside.

It’s 3 p.m. My to-do list has expanded 10-fold since I came in this morning. My emails keep piling up. How did this happen? As my mind races with thoughts of “Oh, crap!” my lovely co-worker reminds me of my challenge and suggests we have lunch on the front lawn. I concede. I hide my list of things to do, shut my laptop down, and gladly walk outside and plop myself on the lawn in front of our building.

We end up talking for 45 minutes about our cultural background and discover how similar our upbringings were. We share a few funny stories of our college years and end up getting to know each other better than we would have at a meeting or on Gchat.

I was only supposed to spend 20 minutes outside today, but instead it turned out to be 45 glorious minutes. The fresh air, vitamin D, and great conversation gave me more energy and clarity than five cups of coffee ever could. Needless to say, I returned to my desk ready to conquer that expanding list of things to do.
