Demolition Derby

There is a lot of trash generated when, in the course of "urban renewal," buildings have to be destroyed. Usually they just knock them down and throw all the detritus into a landfill. Some companies are working to change that. In New York, Build It Green! opts for deconstruction instead of demolition. They go through old buildings and salvage anything that can be sold. At their Queens warehouse, you can buy cheap fixtures, furniture, etc, all at discount prices. The profits from the sale go to charity. Meanwhile, in England, Green-Works is devoted to saving used office furniture from the trash heap. Then they sell it to non-profits at cut-rate prices.
