It seems like just yesterday that Saddam was sent to trial for atrocities committed against the Kurds. We wondered: Will it be possible for him to get a fair trial? Well…Yes. And then some. During a heartwarmingly cordial exchange Thursday while questioning a Kurdish witness, Judge Abdullah al-Amiri reassured a clearly distraught Saddam by saying: "You were not a dictator. People around you made you (look like) a dictator."

Apparently al-Amiri thought exchanging pleasantries with Saddam was a good way to quell roomers of his bias toward the defense, using the somewhat tenuous logic of "judge not, lest ye be judged, judge."
