My goal is to educate the public on an issue that has been put on the back burner for far too long.It has recently come to my attention that most of America is in the dark on the subject of federal parole. Absolutely no one that I have asked even knew that it had been taken out of the system. It was abolished in 1987. Parole is only available to those incarcerated before that date. Parole continues to be practiced on state crimes. Why not federal? Not all of these federal inmates are convicted of heinous, unthinkable crimes. Actually, the majority are non-violent, first time offenders. For example, did you know that the sale of alcohol to a minor is a federal offense? These new sentencing guidelines not only eliminated parole and made it necessary to complete all but forty-seven days of good time each year, but they essentially doubled the sentences that judges were forced to impose. The average cost to house one inmate, including the personnel to supervise is $40,000.00! The total cost to house these inmates as a whole is over 8 billion dollars. This does not count the extra money involved in taking care of the elderly inmates with medical problems. The Federal Bureau of Prisons is presently over 40% capacity. Do we build more prisons or do we help to rehabilitate the prisoners that we already have? There is current bill today addressing this subject. It is called HR 3072. Feel free to look it up. If you would like to help reinstate parole into the federal prison please visit november.org or petitiononline.com. For more information on this subject vist FedCURE.com.
I am begging your assistance in helping to educate the public in this matter.
