Florida Might Be First for High-speed Rail

Remember back when everyone was talking about the stimulus bill, and how it included $8 billion for high-speed rail projects, and we all had fun speculating about where our fast new trains might go? Well, it looks like we have a winner. From Streetsblog:
President Obama is headed for Florida on Thursday, and the state is all but certain that he's coming with $2.6 billion in federal stimulus funding for a new high-speed rail link between Tampa and Orlando. The state envisions an 85-mile Tampa-Orlando link as the first phase in a network of bullet trains that would eventually reach as far south as Miami.

Who's up next? California? I'd love to give that planned San Francisco-Los Angeles-San Diego line a jumpstart and it looks like the Obama administration is favoring projects that are pretty far along.
