By 2010 The Expo Light Rail Line is supposed to be up and running. The project includes two phases. The first involving a rail connecting Downtown LA (7th St/Metro Center) to the west side's Culver City (Venice/Robertson). Phase 2 is bold enough to claim beach access, planning on running all the way to Santa Monica (see proposed stations here).
West LA is long overdue for something that resembles efficient public transportation; and it looks like that reality may begin to come about as soon as within a year. I just hope like most projects that happen in big metropolitan cities, that the timeline they are giving is somewhat accurate. If any place needs a more efficient and accessible public transit system, it's Los Angeles. I'm excited to see what lay in store.
