As an addendum to my more vitriolic post below, here is a collection of links from today and yesterday from the left and right to help expand your thinking on the current conflict:
Time magazine on why Israel’s offensive wont work
Jonah Goldberg, preempting Goodwin’s Law, on whether Nazi comparisons are valid.
From Slate, Christopher Hitchens on Palestine’s failed promise.
From pro-Israel (but anti AIPAC) lobby group J-Street, on why they support a cease fire.
From the NYT, election flash point Rashid Khalidi on what you need to know about Gaza.
From Fox News, a Gazan reporter describes the carnage.
What are some of the best things you’ve read about the conflict? Post them in the comments and we’ll add them to this post.
UPDATE:
From the comments:
From the Times, a visual timeline of Gaza, Hamas, and Israel.
The U.S Senate passes a resolution supporting the incursion.
The Economist on rights and wrongs in Gaza.
Another, older Times op-ed on what, exactly, Israel is so scared of.

nice to see that under pressure, we all buckle to be fair or at least give a semblance of it.
Here’s a nice visual time line of the last 50 or so years of conflict in Israel/Gaza from NYTimes.
US Senate supports Israel’s Gaza incursion, the House expected to follow suit.
the economist’s ‘gaza: the rights & wrongs‘, although it is 10 days old or so now. http://www.economist.com/printedition/displayStory.cfm?Story_ID=12853965&source=most_commented
Op-Ed piece on “Why Israel Feels Threatened.” One fun fact is that, if current birth rates persist, Israeli Arabs will outnumber Israeli Jews by 2040.
Best thing I’ve read so far on subject from salon.com, by Gary Kamiya:It’s a look at the current war from a historical perspective, and an interrogation of the ’special relationship’ between Israel and the US that makes EVERY US politician support Israel’s aggression except Kucinich.
Some of the best articles I’ve read on the conflict thus far:An article from Al-Jazeera on the reporting of the conflict in the US:http://english.aljazeera.net/focus/war_on_gaza/2009/01/20091585448204690.htmlAn excellent article from the The Guardian, by Oxford University Professor of International Relations Avi Shlaim, on the history of the conflict:http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jan/07/gaza-israel-palestineFrom the BBC News website, an article about the UN pulling out of Gaza, and criticisms being aimed at the IDF from the International Red Cross and Amnesty International:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7818577.stm
UN Human Rights Chief condemns Israel for War Crimes:http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jan/10/un-human-rights-gaza-zeitoun

US senate and House supporting Israel does NOT justify it. Who made them the authority on good and bad?!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KntmpoRXFX4
