Hi all-

I recently received a catalog from a non-profit organization called Heifer International. They supply animals for farming, etc. to poor people in many countries. I was dismayed to see on pages 12-13 that they ship rabbits, touting them as "low-cost, high-yield" and "easy to care for." Fearing the worst and doing a spot-check on their website, I see they tout a "Livestock Development Project" in China, where they provided 9,400 rabbits Hmmmm...rabbit fur production? No mention of sending any veterinary support or supplies to that project. I e-mailed them deploring their rabbit projects, and telling them to take me off their mailing list, which they promptly replied they'd do. Might be an interesting organization to do an exploratory piece on, especially since they indicate they don't track where the animals go (and therefore probably don't record how many die in transit?) Their website is www.heifer.org
