Here's a shock: Oil Companies Don't Care About Alternative Energy

In an article in the New York Times today, Jad Mouawad does his best to say what many people already know: that big oil doesn't really care about "going green".  Their aggressive media campaigns would lead some of us to believe otherwise, but let's be honest; for the next 15-20 years we will still rely on oil and petroleum products for energy.  Doesn't it seem pertinent that the companies that control vast amounts of the oil market be on the front lines in creating new energy sources?  They have the money, of course, and the political pull.  Maybe they can create spin-off companies that are solely for the development of clean energy.  Weaning off our dependence on oil will be slow, no doubt, but to be ahead of the curve would mean tremendous benefits down the road.  Does no one in big oil see this?  It seems blatantly clear to myself and many others, but I guess the oil companies have their collective heads buried in the oil sands.
