I would like to thank Hollywood for contributing to my knowledge about Africa. If it were not for the compelling portrayals in their films and the heart-felt inspiration from their activists...I would not have naively accepted a petroleum engineer job offer in West Africa over a year ago; consequently, get smacked by the reality of the sub-region, and then, of course, fittingly write a novel about it.

With that being said, I thank you, Hollywood...for teaching me everything about Africa that both Mr. Wainaina and Mr. Polakow-Suransky highlight in their essays.

Now, would someone like to edit my book? ;)

Sincerely,

Kristie

P.S. Cheers to Mr. Wainaina and Mr. Polakow-Suransky for their contributions on this subject. I agree with Sasha when he states that "there will be no shortage of drama on the continent in the years to come". With that being said, I wish Hollywood good luck in extracting more integrable and realistic plots for audiences to enjoy and be educated from.

As a South African I found Tsotsi to be a good departure from the usual African movie fair. Still shows a struggling Africa though.
