Honduras: The Original Banana Republic

  • Posted by: Andrew Price

Between the election in Iran and the death of the King of Pop, this coup in Honduras is getting lost in the shuffle. Here are some helpful links if you want to catch up.

Here’s a quick, entertaining read on the history of Honduras from Sustainable Food. Honduras was the original “banana republic”—a country run, in effect, by American fruit interests. Our appetite for Honduran bananas set the stage for the country’s political problems.

Here’s a Flickr set of photos from the coup. Check out the shot of snipers on the roof of the Marriott.

For great daily updates on the situation check out Eva Golinger’s blog, Postcards from the Revolution.

Take a few minutes to read this: it’s recent news that we haven’t really heard about
and make sure to read the link
“Here’s a quick, entertaining read on the history of Hondouras”

Our school of the americas trained asshole-friends were said to have caused the Coup.

Hondouras? Are you kidding me? What kind of editor writes Hondouras, instead of Honduras? This site should be Alexa 400,000 instead of 20,000 based on the content value

Spelling error fixed. Thanks for the catch, Michael.
