The enterprising folks at MyTCC have created a handy trip planner that lets the residents of Toronto find the fastest route between any two points in the city. The planner is powered by an algorithm called Iroquois. And here is a fun, visual explanation of how the algorithm that powers it works.
I'm a little unclear on how the measure of "ass pain" differs from the measure of time, but it's interesting to watch the algorithm explore the city like that.
