In this health care reform debate, the issue of "the public option"-whether or not there should be public, government insurance programs that compete with for-profit health insurance companies-is a huge sticking point in congress. But you know where it's less controversial? Everywhere else in America. It's hugely popular among non-politicians:



And among doctors:



Politicians are sometimes pretty eager to do what's popular. In this case, there's so much debate about it in Congress largely because on this issue politicians care a lot about what health insurance industry lobbyists think.
