Yes, it's a Nike ad. Yes, it has a corporate agenda. But that doesn't make it any less compelling an example of the sheer magnitude of the FIFA World Cup. "Write the Future" attempts to capture the agony, the elation, and the general emotion surrounding not only sport, but the general human pursuit of greatness.

Of course, the immensity of the event won't resonate as much in the United States, where football (excuse me, "soccer") is less prominent than baseball, American football, and basketball, but this shouldn't be a reason not to care. It's a source of national pride, after all. It's an excuse to stop bickering and to root, root, root for the home team.
