Kasparov Checkmate

  • Posted by: Morgan Clendaniel

Garry Kasparov (who we recently interviewed) says that he was running for the Russian presidency not because he thought he would win, but to show that it was possible for someone to run against the Putin political machine. Sadly, that is no longer true. Because of “difficulties” renting out a space big enough to hold the 500 people necessary to nominate him (i.e. no one was allowed to rent him the space), Kasparov will not be running. We imagine he’ll continue agitating for a more democratic Russia, but the Other Russia candidacy is, for now, a dream deferred.
