Old, decaying, scarred. This is how Americans see John McCain. It is nothing new to see, there is no change in the type of Republican candidate. Yet his democratic adversary represents everything he is not. Hope, change, energy. I will assure you that many undecideds will vote on these few traits of character, and in no way vote on issues of policy. So, what can McCain do to offset this formidable foe of Barack Obama? The answer is a young and 'hip' vice president. Young dark and handsome is where they must search, and look to someone who has fresh ideas, who is independent yet interdependent, who has been proven in the past, but can still look at new issues with a new approach. Two people fit this mold, and they are Gov. Mitt Romney and Gov. Tim Pawlenty. However it may be imprudent to call in Romney, as their jabs in the primaries were nasty and some comments made unforgettable. Tim Pawlenty on the other hand, has slogged through the liberal environment of Minnesota and is serving another term as Governor of Minnesota. He is softspoken yet adamant in his beliefs and knows where middle-class families are coming from as his family lives in a middle-class neighborhood of South Saint Paul. McCain must weigh his choices carefully, as this V.P. might just be the most important person to his success.
