Mercedes-Benz is entering the luxury hybrid market. This Sunday the company will reveal their "Tree of Innovation" ad campaign for the S400 during the 82nd Annual Academy Awards ceremony. According to Treehugger, the campaign, represented by dashing Mad Men star Jon Hamm, features a 250-year-old tree, lush greenery, and the promise of innovation, all intended to draw the eye to the sleek S400 Hybrid. Treehugger reports:
The Mercedes-Benz 2010 S400 HYBRID is the world's first production vehicle powered by lithium ion, a sophisticated new battery technology that is more compact and energy efficient than conventional batteries. It is one of two hybrids the company offers along with three BlueTEC clean diesels and an upcoming fleet of fuel cell vehicles. It has been shortlisted for the prestigious World Green Car Award to be announced April 2010 at the New York International Auto Show.
Getting 19 city mpg and 26 highway, the S400 Hybrid doesn't quite meet the fuel efficiency of other 2010 models, but the introduction of this new battery technology is an impressive step in the right direction.Photo via Treehugger
