Michael Pollan and Dan Barber, in a benefit for Just Food, will be celebrating the life and work of food activist, author, academic and farmer Joan Dye Gussow, on Sunday April 25th, at Sotheby’s in New York City. Just Food is the leader in connecting local farms to NYC neighborhoods and communities.
Other friends of Joan participating in the celebration include Brian Halweil and Peter Hoffman. Local fresh, seasonal and sustainable green food will be provided by Great Performances and wine by the Long Island Wine Counsel.
Joan Dye Gussow, chair of Just Food’s first board of directors, is one of the founding mothers of the local food movement. Joan is the Mary Swartz Rose Professor Emerita of Nutrition and Education at Teacher’s College, Columbia University (NYC). The highly acclaimed nutritionist is author, coauthor or editor of a number of articles and several books. Her 2001 book, “This Organic Life: Confessions of a Suburban Homesteader,” is based on the lessons learned from decades of working toward growing her own.
