Lawns are not a top concern of the urban youth. But 6 million lawn mowers are sold every year, and none of them have catalytic converters, which means they pollute bad. According to the NYT: "Gallon for gallon - or, given the size of lawnmower tanks, quart for quart - the 2006 lawn mower engines contribute 93 times more smog-forming emissions than 2006 cars." Yowzers. How about some regulation? Not while the two largest lawn mower plants are in Missouri, where Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) can kowtow to the lawn lobby.
