New Ways Of Getting Around

The Times has an piece today on new developments in urban planning that will allow New York to become more pedestrian and bike friendly. These range from the likely (more bike lanes) to the far distant (designing and mandating smaller cars). This is all made a little sad by the fact that Bloomberg’s congestion pricing plan was declared dead without a vote by New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver today. Great work, Sheldon! Thanks for standing in the way of progress. Congestion pricing, you will recall, was one of the five innovations GOOD said would be coming to transportation in America soon. I guess we’ll have to wait a little longer, and New York will still be a disgusting and congested place to walk and drive.
