On Hodgman

  • Posted by: RogerNumbers

Today’s show is my interview with author, minor television personality, and all-around interesting guy John Hodgman. The buzz around the newsroom was that we must have been separated at birth. I’m not sure I see it.

If so, though, I think it’s clear he is the evil twin, as he essentially makes things up for a living. Although if he has a twin blog somewhere on which he makes things up, he may be saying I’m evil and I make things up for a living, and that anything I write here is made up. And how would you know the difference?

This reminds me of a riddle. You’re trapped in a dungeon, and there are two doors and two guards in front of you. One door leads to safety, the other to certain death. One guard always tells the truth, the other always lies. You’re allowed one question to one of the guards to figure out how to get out safely. What do you ask?

When you think about it, getting past the riddle, it’s a weird idea for a dungeon. No bars, no dragon. It’s weirder still if the two guards are John Hodgman and me, but that’s basically what I’m saying. I’m glad that he is an author and minor television personality and I am a news anchor and we’re not dungeon guards. Things would be very different for us both, and that is the truth.
