I have an idea for an eco-friendly business that has taken inspiration from the movies “No-Impact Man” and “Food, Inc.” and books written by Kathleen DesMaisons. The world is slowly becoming more AWARE; aware of our impact on the planet and aware of our health. I would like to create a store that is free of all packaging, stocked with locally grown foods and items, with a focus on holistic health.  As I have shifted to using only reusable grocery bags, joined our local CSA and become aware of the effects of sugar on my body, I have had to reconsider where and how I shop. I would love to go to a store where I could feel good about not contributing to the enormous trash piles in our oceans and around the world. I would love to support local farms and trust that the foods I am buying and eating have not been genetically modified or sprayed with pesticides. I would like to have a wide selection of healthy foods without worrying about hidden ingredients. My vision is this: A grocery store that provides all foods in bulk or without packaging, where the customer brings or purchases re-usable packages such as glass jars, mesh bags, or other containers to fill with their foods.  Imagine if instead of buying a dozen eggs in a throw-away carton every time you shopped, you could bring in your own carton and fill it up or use an empty carton left by another customer. I think that alone could make an impact.  What about rolls of toilet paper? Do they need to be wrapped in gobs of plastic? Imagine a world where the people and the planet are living a healthy cooperative existence. By eliminating packaging, we would be allowing Mother Earth to breathe free of the stifling amounts of trash produced every day. By eliminating outsourced foods, we would be supporting not only our own health, but also that of the land and local farmers. By eliminating hidden ingredients, we would be supporting not only our physical health but also our emotional and mental health. I am asking for your support!
