If this year's presidential election is going to be about the economy, what the candidates say about the economy will be pretty thoroughly scrutinized. That's why it's a little surprising that Paul Ryan, now officially the vice presidential nominee of the Republican Party, took such liberties with the truth in his speech last night.
Reading a variety of news organizations' fact-check stories about the speech, I realized that it's a pretty decent way to catch up on what's going on and what the various claims of both major parties are as they relate to the economy.
USA Today, Salon, the New York Times and Fox News found a lot of issues, agreeing on most.
In reading a number of these, I also learned a lot of words that media outlets use for "lie." My favorite today is "factual shortcut."
