While Richard Choi was visiting his family in Michigan one winter, he felt compelled to spend a day sharing his craft-photography-with his father. Noting the general beauty of the land inhabited by a nearby Amish community, Choi's father suggested they make the short drive to the town of Shipshewana. After a day of knocking on doors and interacting with the Amish people, something powerful took place."For me, photographic projects are catalysts for internal dialogue," says Choi. "This project started off as a fascination with a subculture, but as I looked into the life of the Amish children, seeing them milking cows and riding horses through the snow, I got to experience a lifestyle I wouldn't have ever dreamed of living, even though I grew up relatively nearby, and I started asking questions about my own upbringing.""I'd never really liked the Midwest before this project," he adds. "Now a lot of my work revolves around it."

-Are you a photographer with a project you would like to share with the GOOD community? Send a brief description and a link to photo [at] goodinc [dot] com, and we'll take a look. If we like it, it might end up as one of our Picture Shows. We look forward to your submissions.
