Project 006: Seattle vs. Vancouver

For Project 006: GOOD or BAD Design? dospacificos submitted these shots of Seattle and Vancouver.

We’ll let him explain.

“My home town: Seattle is BAD. Compared to Vancouver, B.C., to the north, Seattle has seen tremendous growth in recent decades out pace the viability for affordable housing, public transport, and an aging highway and bridge infrastructure doomed to collapse. …For a city and region that embraces 21st century values and esteems technological advances in medicine, aerospace, and software engineering, it suffers from a dystopian mid-20th century mindset to solve urban and architectural design problems.”

“Vancouver, as an example of “GOOD” design, reflects an urban area that accomplishes its goals as a functioning environment for its inhabitants. Architects, developers, the city itself and its residents have planned for growth for over 4 decades, and have managed it well. …Managed growth has offered high density that creates an architectural continuity, and an extensive clean and efficient public transportation system with SkyTrain. …Vancouver is, indeed, good.”

Yeah, so GOOD that Canada will not let US in. I’ve been trying to get a Canadian work visa in hopes of moving to Vancouver, but nothing. They just don’t want Americans.

We do plenty of planning in Seattle, but not too much following through.
